Kartik Oraon College is a premier constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi. This is situated in dense population of tribals (70%) at Gumla district headquarters. It was established in July 1960 as an affiliated body of Ranchi University, Ranchi on a 56 acre of land, lavishly donated by the then Maharaja of Ratu, Lal Chintamani Sharan Nath Sahdeo on Palkot Road, near Puggu village at a distance of 3 kms from Gumla township. Several prominent people of Gumla including leading advocates, administrators and local people spearheaded the establishment of this college.

K. O. College, Gumla was established in 1960 by local philanthropists to offer holistic education in order to equip its graduates for a fast diversifying world. K.O. College which was converted into a constituent unit of Ranchi University in April 1977 is committed to build a unique environment to facilitate the major faculties of Arts, Commerce, Science and Vocational Courses of higher education and also facilitate the relationship between higher education and society.
Extra-curricular Activities
The college has formed several Departmental Councils, Societies in the college which seek to promote corporate life among the students and provide them opportunities for growth and self expression. These councils and societies function under the supervision of the Heads of the Department Concerned. The college provides facilities for playing Cricket, Badminton, Football, Athletics, Carom & Gymnastics for the upliftment of the students in sports arena.
